The Staffordshire bull terrier is a medium-sized, short-coated breed of dog that resembles pit bull type appearance. They were previously used for bull baiting, bear baiting and cock fighting as well. They were also used for entertainment purpose.

Characteristics

The Staffordshire bull terrier is a medium sized, muscular and stocky with a similar appearance .It has a smooth coat that clings tightly to the body, giving the dog a great appearance. It has a relatively short face, dark round eyes, and a wide mouth that has sharp teeth. It has small ears with pronounced cheek muscles. The head tapers down to a strong well-muscled neck and shoulders placed on squarely spaced forelimbs. The dogs stand 36 to 41 cm at the withers and weigh 13 to 17 kg for males; females are 11 to 15.4 kg

Behavior

These dogs are known to be friendly, extremely affectionate and enthusiastic towards human beings. They express all their affection by jumping, licking and pawing. They can be well trained as well. These pets are not suitable for owners who would like to have reserve dogs.
