The head and upper parts are blue in colour, with slate-grey ear coverts fading to white underneath, from the chin to the belly. Their flippers are blue in colour.

Little penguins are known to be inshore feeders and they can dive in as deep as 20mts and stay inside the water for atleast 60 seconds.They are usually diurnal and like many penguin species, spend the largest part of their day swimming and foraging at sea in search of food.They search for food throughout the day and come back home at night.

Little Penguins are seen all over around Australia, New Zealand, South Wales, Africa, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia. They thrive in the cold weather where there is enough snow fall.

Diet

These birds feed by hunting small clupeoid fish, cephalopods and crustaceans for which they need to travel extensively to hunt for the same.Their prey also includes arrow squid, slender sprat, Graham’s gudgeon, red cod and ahuru as part of their daily meal.
