Lhasa apso


The Lhasa Apso is a non-sporting dog breed originating in Tibet. It was used as a sentinel in Buddhist monasteries to alert the monks of any kind of intruders. It derives its name from the capital of Tibet Lhasa.

The Lhasa Apso is a small and hardy dog whose body length is longer than the height. It has a dense double coat that can protect it from cold. They have short legs that make it difficult for them to run fast. Owners often cut the long fur of the dog


Male Lhasa Apsos are ideally 10.75 inches at the withers and weigh about 14 to 18 pounds. The females are a little smaller and weigh between 12 to 14 pounds. They have dark brown eyes, black nose, or a brown nose. They are available in colors including black, white, red and gold with various shadings. They have dark tips at the end of their beard.


Lhasa Apsos are independent dogs who can be very good companions as well. They are suspicious towards strangers. Lhasa Apsos often show happiness by rubbing their heads on their owners, running and rolling around. They are loyal dogs who are trustworthy as well. They are known to be good watch dogs as well. These dogs make really good pets at home. They can live for a term of 15 years or so if properly maintained.

Though these dogs originated in Tibet, they are now found all across the world including the UK and the USA< Asia, Europe and other parts of the world.


The best diet for a Lhasa Apso is real food like Chicken, beef, turkey, and meat products. They are known to live for a long time.


They can produce up to 4- 5 puppies in a litter in a year.
