The India Star tortoise is the oldest animal on earth and it is an endangered species which is found in the dry areas in India and Sri Lanka.This is known to be an exotic pet for trade which is very expensive.

The India Star tortoise is a beautiful tortoise with a star drawn hard shell that gives it its name.They are a bit smaller than the other breeds.

Characteristics

Tortoise require heat and light to keep warm and healthy.They may be around 7- 12 inches long and they live upto 80 years. . Indian star tortoises from the mainland in southern India grow about 2 inches shorter, with females averaging about 8 inches and males only about 5 inches

Star tortoises are herbivores and they can green leafy vegetables grasses and plants.They can also feed on orchard grass, mustard greens, Bermuda grass and alfalfa. Fresh greens are good for tortoises as they have calcium as well.

Indian star tortoises breed in captivity in either indoor or outdoor enclosures. During the warm wet season, breeding activity usually increase and eggs are laid in the fall or during the winter during October to February
