Characteristics


The average length of a fully-grown Frilled Lizard is about 85 cm. This lizard is usually spotted in its bipedal movement. The colours of these lizards are usually brown or grey. There are spots of darker colours found on its body and all the colours are mixed in such a way that it looks like the branch of a tree. Thus, it is very easy for these lizards to camouflage in the trees. The colours of these lizards vary according to its environment. If this lizard is found in a very dry environment filled with clay, then it will have mixed colours of orange, red and brown. In a damp environment, the colour will be dark brown or grey. The frill of these lizards is a large and rough skin. They spread out this skin when they are frightened. The colour of the frill is always lighter than its body.

These lizards can maintain its body temperature. They bask themselves and achieves a temperature which is 2-3 degrees more than the temperature of the surrounding environment.

Diet


The Frilled Lizards are carnivorous. They like to feed on cicadas, beetles, termites and even mice. Butterflies, moths and the larvae are the most favourite of these lizards. Sometimes, these lizards also feed on spiders and other lizards. These lizards can eat a lot at once. However, these are not harmful to the humans.
