The Asian giant is the largest hornet in the world. Its native place is temperate & tropical Eastern Asia. They prefer living in low mountains and woodlands, while more or less totally keeping off the climates of plains and places at a high altitude.

They create nests by digging, picking tunnels that have already been dug by rodents, or by taking up spaces in the vicinity of rotted pine roots. Its main food is larger sized insects, gatherings of different eusocial insects, and honey of honey bee colonies, and tree sap.

Characteristics

This species of WASP is greater compared to other and the average Asian Giant Hornet grows up to 2.7cm – 4.5cm in length while having a wingspan of approximately 7cm. Though the queens can develop up to 5.5cm they’ve an appearance like the worker Hornets with their orange head, black colored mandibles and a golden and black body.

Behavior

The Asian Giant Hornet is branded for its fearless and tremendously hostile attitudes, and it seems to like one animal particularly, which is the Honeybee. It’s a sociable Insect, working jointly within a colony for foraging for food, developing the dimension of the nest and looking after the young.

Distribution

It can be found all over Eastern Asia in Taiwan, China, Korea, Indochina, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. However, they are the most prevalent in the mountains in Japan.

Diet

It’s a potent killer within its environment, mostly hunting diffident insects, mostly Bees. It is also normally known to murder larger Insects that includes Preying Mantises and different Wasps and Hornets.

Reproduction

Mating happens at some stage in the fall. Copulation happens at nest entries. Sex pheromones are also resorted to for initiating male sexual behavior. Copulation lasts for between 8 and 45 seconds.
